In this class we began learning about the First Conditional....

We use it to talk about possible or probably events in the future...

If it rains today, I will stay in and watch TV.

The structure is.....

IF + present simple, will + base verb (go, do, eat, study, write etc....)

We began by revising the Past Continuous was were      +              verb-ing We often use it with the Past simple to talk about a longer action interrupted by a shorter action... I was cooking dinner when the phone rang. We then read about a farmer and his sons on p. In this story we saw examples of the Past Perfect When their father had died, the sons looked for the treasure. The Past Perfect is made from had + past participle (3rd part of the verb) We often use it with the Past Simple - the past perfect tells us what happened before the action in the past simple.... My friend rang me at 6.30pm and invited me to dinner, but I had just eaten. We then looked at making sentences to talk about causes and consequences, using the past perfect and the past simple....We used "because" and "so" to connect the ideas I was tired because I had not slept, so I fell asleep in class. We revised the present perfect in the negative.... I haven't been to Dublin for six months.  I haven't seen my friend since last year. WE then continued to learn about the Past Continuous.... We revised the differences between the Present Simple and Continuous Present Simple Present Continuous I eat She eats I don’t eat She doesn’t eat Do you eat? Does he eat? Always Sometimes Every day Usually I am eating He is eating I am not eating He is not eating Are you eating? Is he eating? What is he eating? At the moment Now Definite plans for the future (what are you doing at the weekend?) Some expressions that came up during the class: To get on Eg. – how are you getting on? = how are you doing?
