We finished talking about narrative tenses in the past this week - we looked at one more story.. vocab.... to swerve - to turn suddenly, especially in a car hail - little pieces of ice falling from the sky We then went on to learn about phrasal verbs....these are verbs that have a verb and a preposition, where the verb does not have its normal meaning... We read a text to row - to argue to follow in someone´s footsteps to take off  - when a plane leaves the ground to get on with - to be friendly with to make up - to be friends again after an argument to take after - to do something similar in life to an older relative

We looked again at phrasal verbs..... put up with - to tolerate to bring up - to educate a child Some phrasal verbs have more than one meaning... I made up a story for my son.  My friend and I argued, but then we made up.

In this class we continued talking about question tags.... You are from China, aren't you? But - I am smart, aren't I? Some other irregulars... Let's go to the beach, shall we? Don't touch that cup, will you? We then looked at phrasal verbs.... to make up  - to become friends again after an argument to bring up - to educate, raise to turn out - to finish up, - It all turned out all right other vocab - to follow in someone's footsteps - to do the same job that they did, mainly connected to parents...

In this class we studied the past continuous again, especially how to make questions..... He was eating when I saw him. What was he doing when you saw him? We need to change the subject (he) and the verb to be (was) to make the question.. We then went on to the past perfect.. When I got home, the children had gone to bed.  "had gone" tells us what had happened before another action in the past...

In this class we looked at Question Tags.... You are from Ireland, aren't you? "aren't you" is a question tag, we use it to check or confirm information..... If the sentence is positive, the tag must be negative.....and vice versa.... To Be We use the same verb as in the sentence, but change negative to positive etc... He is quiet, isn't he? She was late, wasn't she? Present Simple We use "do", "don't", "does" or "doesn't" You live in Sligo, don't you? He doesn't play tennis, does he? Past Simple We use "did" or "didn't" Present Perfect We use "have", "haven't", "has" or "hasn't" More practice here

We revised the present perfect in the negative.... I haven't been to Dublin for six months.  I haven't seen my friend since last year. WE then continued to learn about the Past Continuous.... While I was cooking dinner, my friend rang.  I was cooking is the Past Continuous.... We need  was were          +          verb-ing
